Not Quite Breakfast, Not Quite Lunch
LA's best brunches

...but it comes with a slice of cantaloupe at the end.

Culver City: Café Laurent
A hidden patio awaits behind the unassuming entrance, where weekend brunch is enjoyed with live tunes sung by a charming French couple.
The dish: Omelette La Complete — brie, mushrooms, avocado and ham or turkey.
7:30-11:30a Tues-Fri; all day Sat-Sun. 4243 Overland Ave. (310-558-8622)

Brentwood: A Votre Sante
Swing by post-San Vicente bike ride for Mediterranean décor with a soy chai latte — truly one of the best on the Westside.
The dish: Tex-Mex Scramble with salmon and egg whites or blue corn and banana pancakes.
Mon 11a-3p; Tues-Fri 8:30a-3p; Sat-Sun 9a-3p. 13018 San Vicente Blvd. (310-451-1813)

Mid-City West: Mäni’s
Grab a table outside for the best people watching, before or after a LACMA visit — it's just steps away on Fairfax. New-age plates are ideal for vegans and the health conscious.
The dish: Huevos rancheros and eggs benedict or quinoa oatmeal and vegan black bean and plantain quesadillas.
Sun-Thurs 8a-9p; Fri-Sat 8a-10p. 519 S. Fairfax Ave. (323-938-8800)

Silver Lake: Dusty’s
Things can get hectic waiting for a table at this ironically decorated spot, but once you’ve got one locked, the best is yet to come: the bread basket alone is by far the neighborhood's best.
The dish: Stuffed French toast (with ricotta, strawberries and bananas) is outdone only by the Monte Christo, a French toast sandwich with ham and Swiss on brioche.
Mon-Fri 10a-4p; Sat-Sun 8a-4p. 3200 W. Sunset Blvd. (323-906-9356)

Downtown: Bottega Louie
Make it a New York kind of weekend with a quick nosh. The white-on-white behemoth serves up fast bites at the bar area — the wait for an actual table can sometimes get close to two hours.
The dish: Potato pancakes with crème fraiche and applesauce and pancetta and burrata omelettes.
Sat-Sun 9a-11a; brunch Sat-Sun 11a-2:45p. 700 S. Grand Ave. (213-802-1470)

Malibu: Inn of the Seventh Ray
Topanga Canyon may be filled with aging hippies, but the farm-fresh, organic, locally sourced fare at this tree-nestled place is so good it will make you reconsider power crystals and tantric yoga.
The dish: Traditional and vegan scones, and snow crab quiche.
Sunday buffet served 9a-3p. 128 Old Topanga Canyon Rd. (310-455-1311)
